Naturezones School Visit Booking Form

Please complete one booking form per class/group (max 30 – 35 pupils) Please photo-copy this form as necessary.

In signing our booking form you agree your group will abide by our behaviour code whilst visiting the centre. Adults accompanying your group are aware of the code and that children are well supervised throughout their visit.

BOOKING CONDITIONS

The Booking Form—once signed and returned is a confirmed booking.

Cancellations—can only be accepted 4 weeks prior to visit. Later than this means we have to pay a cancellation fee to the instructor which will be taken from the free visits budget.

Health and Safety—A safety talk is given to all group member upon arrival. We have a risk assessment which can be made available to schools for the visit and the activities used. We have a trained first aid person on the site however, we would prefer it if you, the client, appoint one of your group as medical first aid officer (who is aware of any health issues of the participants) on the visit.

Insurance— We hold Public Liability insurance for all visitors to Naturezones at all times.

Discipline—Teachers and adult supervisors remain responsible for discipline at all times and should ensure that their pupils are adequately supervised and agree to act as Loco Parents’ at all times.

Toilets and hand washing—We have a toilet block by the barn. Hand washing facilities are available which all children MUST use before eating food.

Lunch—can be eaten in the barn on wet days and in the meadows during sunny days.

Clothing—Please ensure children are appropriately dressed. Boots and wet weather cloths or sun hats and sun cream on sunny days.

Payment—for some visits must be received in full on booking.

Our obligation to the booking—Naturezones shall not be liable for any delay in performing or failing to perform any obligation or alterations and cancellations due to any cause beyond its control.

Changes to programme—material changes may be necessary due to prevailing weather conditions, operational conditions and other matters beyond the control of Naturezones. We will contact the client as soon as possible to inform of these changes.

Seasonal alterations—Some of the activities may benefit from seasonal alterations and these changes may be incorporated into the programme at the last minute.

Arrival—Coaches and school busses must drop children off at the cycle way entrance on the Blackwater road. There are no parking facilities for coaches and we recommend that buses drop off the children and if necessary park in the car-park on Coppins Bridge roundabout. We are able to accommodate mini busses and up to 8 cars including disabled vehicles.

KS1 Activities – 50 mins duration

WOODLAND

Hug a Tree

Explore and study a tree as a wildlife habitat. Make a log sheet. Wood craft and sculptures

Journey Stick

The children journey through the woodland collecting items of interest as they go. They plot their journey, compare journeys  and use some of their collection to draw a diagram of the journey

MEADOW

Meadow Magic (late May to late July)

Study how many species of wild flowers can be found in the meadows at Naturezones. Gather nature materials and make something creative. Study a single flower. Close up photography of plants. Look and listen what can you discover?.

Buzzy Bees (late May to late July)

Explore the meadows for flower shapes and colours. Learn about pollination, and seasonal food for bees. . Form groups and make-up a play about bees and pollination. Make something to wear.Perform the play.

Helpful Hands

This is a hands on conservation day, Doing” their bit” to conserve a wildlife habitat. This will vary depending upon the time of year but it will cover, propagation, willow work, tree planting, leaf clearing, ditch clearing, hay making, seed collection.

Bugs Galore

Bug hunting, identifying, studying differences. Make a bug hotel, make a bee hotel. Worm charming

Muddy Boots

Explore, ditches, dew ponds and mud pond, wet areas. Make sculptures from mud and natural materials.

KS2/3 Activities – 50 mins duration

WOODLAND

Woody Ways

Exploring and discovering the mysteries of a Carr Woodland. The layers from canopy to ground cover. Make a flow chart. Compare trees, their age, size fruits, leaves and its’ inhabitants. Explore light and shade where it falls in the woodland. What causes autumn leaves. Make woody badges.

Journey Stick

The children collecting items on the way through the wood. Plot their journey with prompts collected. They then investigating the items collected.

MEADOW

Flower Power (late May to late July)

Complete a Nature Detectives log sheet exploring several different wild flowers around Naturezones. Explore and compare, size, shapes, textures. Consider what flowers are growing together and what this means. Test the soil. Explore the variety of grasses and look for bug life and food preferences.

Nature works (late May to late July)

This is a hands on conservation day, Doing” their bit” to conserve a wildlife habitat. This will vary depending upon the time of year but it will cover, propagation, willow work, tree planting, leaf clearing, ditch clearing, hay making, seed collection. Survey and monitoring work. Plotting an area and writing up records.

WILDLIFE

Animal Magic

Search the area of Naturezones looking for sings of wild life. Poo droppings, nut shells, nibbled shoots, foot prints, homes and trails. Make a Bird hide. Listen for animal sounds. Make a map and record your findings.

Design a Wild life Garden

A guided tour of Naturezones pointing out habitats, and features that make up Naturezones. Discuss ideas and features to include in the design of a wildlife garden. Draw the design. Colour it in. Make a legend of the features. Plot out the design in the meadow using sticks, hay bales as markers.
